Monochrome Madness 3-20
This is my contribution to Monochrome Madness organized by Leanne Cole. Look at here site on Thursday (Australian time), to see many more monochrome images created by many other talented photographers.
This week, we have a theme again. It’s “road”.
Several kinds of road came up to my mind, when I read the theme. Several kinds of road images, too. But, here we are in a monochrome challenge. I don’t want to simply have an image converted to bw. I want an image, that ‘works’ in monochrome.
This image is taken in the old fortress of Corfu Town last year. Last week my travel series on Corfu ended. In case, you missed it, have a look. It’s a very nice greek island.
Take care!
WPC: frame 2
This week’s topic for the weekly photo challenge by “The Daily Post” is “frame”.
For this fabulous theme I put a second image online. This one shows, how we can create such frames in your garden.
Take care have a great weekend!

The dark, round rocks laying on the beach are framed by scraggy red rocks. These opposites give complement each other.

Corfu – a review
καλή μέρα, χαιρετισμός – hello!
For this final post on the greek island Corfu, I picked my top images as an appetizer for your own trip to this beautiful island.
You can go by car and take a ferry from the greek mainland or come by plane. There is an international airport on Corfu, only a few kilometers away from Corfu Town.
At least from Germany, there are no scheduled flights, but carter flights for vacationers. But, I was able to get seats without booking a package holiday. Instead, I booked flight, hotel and rental car separately and everything was fine.
Now, you can enjoy the slideshow at the end of this post as a summary. For those of you, having missed the previous posts, you can find them easily by using the category ‘corfu‘. Each post focuses on one location or aspect of the island and has a gallery of some images at the end.
Next week, I’m starting with another location.
Stay tuned!

This is from my trip to Dresden last fall: a backlit fountain in the quarter Innere Neustadt (inner Newtown). The building in the back is the palais, now the museum of ethnology.
Take care!
WPC: rare
This week’s topic for the weekly photo challenge by “The Daily Post” is “rare”.
This tiny thing shaped like a cut-off fingernail is the biggest thing in the solar system: the sun itself.
I picked an image taken during a (partial) solar eclipse. I wrote a bit more about this event and the circumstances in a past post. You can also find some further images in that other post. Have a look!
Solar eclipses take part every few years, but they are visible only in a small area and this area changes from occurrence to occurrence. So, it’s a very rare event in every man’s live. And, many people will never seen one.
Take care have a great weekend!

Corfu cats
On Corfu we saw many, many cats. Most of them quite shy, others trusting and curious. But, all of them very skinny. You can see easily, they have to work hard to make a living. Surprisingly, I didn’t see or hear any dog.
Not all of the images in the gallery below are mine. Half of them are taken by my company. He is also here at WordPress.
While I was driving our rental car, he was able to take some photos while we were on the road. So, he got the images where the cats are examining the waste bins.
Look in the lower right corner to see, which images he gave me. 🙂 To see some more images from Corfu, you could switch to his blog, too.
Take care!

This is the quarter Alfama in Lisbon with Igreja e Convento da Graça (a convent; the large building with the two towers in the upper left), Panteão Nacional (the national pantheon of Portugal; the dome in the middle) and Menino Deus (church with only one tower on the right).

Corfu plant collection
Today, I don’t want to write much. Instead, I want to let the plants speak for themselves.
Corfu is very green. The hills are mostly covered over by forests. In my past posts I already showed you some images taken at our hikes through forests. Many different plants are blooming, even outside the gardens and the parks, at the street sides and beside the paths.
Unfortunately, I’m unable to name them. So, enjoy the slideshow below.
Take care!
Wordless Wednesday: tropical paradies
Monochrome Madness 3-17
Summertime is usually vacation time. For me, vacation means (almost always) being at a beach. Not only in summer. It’s also possible, to go during spring, fall or even winter to the beach. Every season has it specific beauty. Today’s image for Monochrome Madness organized by Leanne Cole is taken in Belgium in middle October. Only few people are on the beach at this time. You can enjoy the landscape and the silence. Listen to the sounds of nature. The wind, the waves and the sea-birds.
Take care!
500px Red Bull Photography Global Photo Walk
Join me for the 4th annual 500px Red Bull Photography Global Photo Walk on September 17, 2016! A German version of this invitation is also available in on my other blog.
This is your chance to get out and meet fellow photographers in your community who share your passion. You’ll share tips and tricks, make new friends, and of course – capture some inspiring images.
The theme of this year’s walk is “Action and Adventure.” Put on your walking, running, cycling (for this location probably not the best choice), or hiking shoes and capture the energy, motion, excitement, and movement of today’s fast-paced places and people.
We’re visiting a very exciting location in the north-western part of the Ruhrgebiet / Ruhr-Area: a former steel plant. Because of the location, this event is not only for Germans. The borders of the Netherlands and Belgium are not far away and even someone from northern France can make it here.
Instead of removing the buildings after closure of the factory, the area was transformed into a park and opened for the public. Now, you can watch, how nature reconquers the area. So, each visit gives you new angels of view, different subjects of interest and certainly different subjects to photograph. You can even climb up the blast furnace. On your way up, you can capture many interesting details and you have a fantastic sight from the top to the surrounding landscape.
No need to be a pro to attend! Grab whatever camera you have (DSLR, mobile phone, point-and-shoot) and join in the fun!
Note: You must register for a free ticket on Eventbrite to attend this event – click “Tickets Available” section, above, to register.
Consider joining the event page on Facebook, too, to get some more information during the next weeks.
Have fun!

Monochrome Madness 3-16
This is my contribution to Monochrome Madness organized by Leanne Cole. Look at here site, to see many more monochrome images created by many other talented photographers.
As this is the first week of a month, we have a theme. This week it is “movement”.
It’s a long exposure of the upper cataract of the Gullfoss waterfall in southern Iceland.
24mm FX, f/16, 0.8 sec, ISO 100, EV -1/3
raw development with CaptureNX2; monochrome conversion with Tonality Pro.
Take care!
It’s still summer?
What a cruel summer! We have August 1st. That’s in the middle of the summer, the middle of the hottest days of the year. But, the thermometer says: +5°C at night and max. +15°C at day. We still get much of rain very often. Leaves are starting to colorize yellow and many of them have already fallen down. The plants behave like they are already preparing for winter. Mushrooms pop up and hazelnuts are ripe. Yesterday I’ve even heard the first group of cranes migrating to the south. Other birds are still growing their descendants. I also missed the swallows and the swifts chasing flying insects for some days. Perhaps they have already begun their migration, too.
I guess, this year summer is skipped. What a queer year 😦
