LEGO week’s over

600_9265_wYesterday early evening ended a special week for me.

Last week our church organized a kids week. Kids at age 8 to 12 were invited to build a city from Lego. About 800 kg of Lego was delivered on Tuesday. We set up a huge table for the buildings, tables for the kids for building purposes and other tables for the stone boxes.

From Wednesday to Friday, the kids built cars, trains, houses and lots more. Some assembled the pieces from ready to build boxes and others build free. Sunday morning was visiting time for parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and so on.

On Sunday afternoon about 30 adult hands needed 5 hours for dismounting everything and putting every stone back in the right box. Thus, the work 60 kids hands and 30 adults hands have built during the week, was removed in only 5 hours.

It was a lot of fun!

Maybe you can see the fun in the gallery, too. I didn’t put any people in the gallery, because of privacy reasons.

Enjoy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

600_9071-e_wThis week’s photo challenge is about Focus.

Photographers are asked to focus on certain parts of their subject and leave the remaining parts in blur. In case they are unable to do it by using their camera, they are also allowed to realize their idea by using software. I personally don’t like the idea of using software, to manipulate a photograph.

Here is my contribution:

The more a child grows, the more his or her parents become needless. They step back and finally they vanish away. The stronger a kid becomes, the weaker the parents have to become.

God bless, for all the kids.

Take care!

games children play

600_5528-sc_wMy last two posts were focused on kids. Today I focus on kids again.

We saw several kids playing in the streets of the cuban cities and I was wondering, what kind of games they’d play. It seems to me, kids all over the world are playing the same kinds of games: football (soccer), throwing cards, marbles, hide and seek, jumping the rope, riding a bike, playing with animals (dogs, cats, goats, donkeys), catch-me or Continue reading “games children play”

schooling

600_6533-sc_wWhen talking about kids, like I did in my last post on Cuba, you also have to talk about education and schooling.

Cuban kids also go to school. Primary schools for the first 6 years are usually in the neighborhoods, secondary schools are a bit more centralized. In the country, where people live more distributed on their farms, schools are really small. In case, there are much too few pupils, the primary school teacher would even come to the farms for 2 or 3 days a week to educate the kids. To get this kids to go to the secondary school, the government offers residential schools.

School starts at 8:30h and lasts until 16:00h. The kids have to wear a uniform. The uniforms Continue reading “schooling”

kids in …

600_6602-ec_w… Cuba. In case you grew up in the 1980s you might have continued the words with ‘America’, as the title of a Kim Wild song sais. But even Cuba is part of the american continent, the subject is much more precise with the word Cuba in it.

When talking about people, there are also kids to talk about. Usually you can see poverty at first when looking at the kids. In Cuba I didn’t see any poverty. Although some houses looked like a renovation was necessary, the people looked quite good. Many, but not too much, kids were in the streets. Their clothes were in proper shape and they didn’t look Continue reading “kids in …”
