dps Weekly Photography Challenge – blue

600_6001-e_wThe guys over at dps asked for their weekly photo challenge for “blue”.

Blue as a color is found everywhere on the planet: water, ocean, lakes, sky, flowers, eyes and many other things, too. Also, you can feel blue, when you’re depressed or exhausted. When describing someone as ‘blue’ in German, you’re saying he or she is found drunk.

This photo from my upcoming series on Iceland has several kinds of natural blue, so I preferred it on many others:

1. the sky
2. the water reflecting the sky
3. the water
4. the ice in the shadows on the mountains
5. the very dense ice swimming on the water
6. my hands and nose from the cold air 🙂
and, maybe, you can find some further blues, too.

Take care and enjoy the silence!

He’s coming!

600_4067-e_wHe’s coming!
Slowly, but unstoppable.
He takes, but also gives back.
Taking the warmth, but giving color.
Taking sight, but giving silence.
Taking balmy nights, but giving shivering.
The fall!

When the fogs are coming, he has already come.
Sunny days, but not really warm anymore.
Instead, cold, clear and starry nights.
So, in the early morning you need additional, warm clothing.
But during the day, you feel reflections of the past summer.

Not long and the winter is around the corner!
Changing everything again.

So long, take a seat and enjoy the silence of a foggy morning at the lake. But, don’t forget to use a warm seat cushion and a blanket. 🙂

Daily Prompt: Moved to Tears

dsc_7665-e_wToday, the Daily Prompt ask photographers to show beauty. But, what is beauty? Is there a general definition, what is beautiful and what is ugly? Doesn’t this depend on the eye of the viewer?

My first intention was, to show a photo of a fledgling of an moorhen. These young birds are really ugly with their bald spots and ugly color combinations in skin, feather and pecker, but what would their mother describe them? Would she also say, their kids were ugly?

On the other hand: think of the fairy tale of the ugly duckling, told by Hans Christian Andersen. An duckling slipping in the wrong nest. Thus, being gray instead of yellow and bigger then his siblings. But, later in time, when he began to be an adult, the ugly duckling turned to be a pride swan.

The angels are preparing for christmas

Only for a few minutes the clouds were illuminated by the setting sun and made such a beautiful color on the evening sky.

You wonder about my subject?
OK, here we have a saying for the kids: when the evening sky turns orange / red in fall and early winter like in the photos, that the angels and the Christkind (Child Jesus Christ) are starting to bake cookies for christmas. And the color is from heating the oven. Even nearly no one has a oven to be heated up by wood fire, the saying still exists.

Are there similar explanations for the reddish sky during fall and early winter in your country?
