Throwback Thursday: at sunrise

I love the certain mood around sunrise. Everything is so quiet. Although, I love the warmth of my bed, I sometimes get up when it is still dark while everyone else in my house is still sleeping and hurry to my destination. Hoping for the right weather conditions – especially, when I have to drive for a long distance to my destination.

Than, upon arriving, I see, if it was worth the effort.

It’s hard to get up so early. For me, too. But, being on location on time and standing in the midth of a daybreak: sunrise and morning fog. It’s such a rewarding experience! It’s cold and dark when getting out of the car. Finding my way to a proper subject in twilight, probably equipped with a torch or a headlamp. Because of the moisture, the fog usually feels icy. So, warm clothes are a necessity. Under these circumstances ons has to check the sky to find out, where the sun will rise over the horizon or the trees, or whatever surrounds you. When the sun gets up, sends its rays through the fog and touches your face or your back, it’s such a fantastic feeling.

No talking, but listening to the nature: the wind in the trees, the awakening birds. Following the vanishing fog and the movements of the shadows.

Sunday 3 weeks ago was such a day with the right conditions for morning fog. Although the weather forecast announced some rain, for Sunday noon I gave it a try and have set my alarm clock for 5:30h. When I got up, the sky didn’t look very proposing. But, I was already up. So, I started to my destination and hoped for the best. You know, weather forecaster think in bigger dimensions. Fortunately, the weather was perfect for my plan and I got what I was looking for. I hope, you like it, too. 🙂

Unfortunately, this magic golden hour only lasts about 30 minutes. Depending on the density of the fog, it needs a bit longer to vanish completely. So, you have to hurry to get some photos. That’s why I want to arrive early on location. I need time to find good spots, set up the tripod and the right lens.

Summing up the trip, I’m very happy about the results: in quality as well as in quantity.

Take care!

Weekly Photo Challenge: On The Way

610_8127-e_w

Friday is the day for the new weekly photo challenge at “The Daily Post“. This weeks topic for the photo challenge is: on the way

We were asked to post a photo taken on our way to a certain destination. I often stop in between on my trips for taking photo. When I see an interesting scene, I stop the car on walk back to that scene, I saw while driving. OK, it’s no always possible to stop. Thus, I often miss an opportunity, too.

This shot was taken on Corfu in such a situation. We were on a trip along the eastern coast to the south, when I saw this scene. An olive tree above the cliff and the mediterrane sea in the background. A hundred meters later, I saw a small spot to stop and I walked back.

Weekly Photo Challenge: enveloped

600_1003-e_wWhen I read this weeks topic for the weekly photo challenge at “The Daily Post” I’ve had to think a moment for a reasonable photo. It topic is: enveloped.

First of all, an envelope used for sending a letter via the postal service came put to my mind. But, also power wires or streets are enveloping our nice little planet 🙂

I picked something similar, a spider’s web. It’s used for enveloping the spiders food and, in this case, it is enveloped in dew.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Between

600_0674-e_wWhen I read the title for this weeks photo challenge at The Daily Post, I knew at once, which photo I’ll post.

Even there are ask many options to interpret that word and a few of them were already mentioned in the original post by Danielle.

Being between sky and earth passing the border between night and day. Although this happens twice every day it is a very special moment. I’d encourage you to feel it yourself, especially in the morning. Get up early and go out to the fields in the countryside. turn you head to the east and welcome the sun. Feel how the early sun can warm your face while the night still cools your back. Enjoy the silence and the awakening birds. Smell the aroma of a newborn day.

Have a nice day / week

and Take care!

Weekly Photo Challenge: beginning

600_0642-e_wThis year the people over at “The Daily Post” continue to organize their weekly photo challenges. This weeks subject is “beginning“, which fits perfectly to the first week of a new year.

I picked a photos taken at the very early morning when the ancient Greek goddess Eos (or Aurora for the Romans) were about to climb over the horizon and break the path for her brother Helios (or Sol for the Romans).

The photo is taken at 4:17 in the morning from a flying balloon. We started at 2:30 in the morning and enjoyed a very remarkable flight and the sunrise. I’d recommend to everyone, to get up very early and go out somewhere at a lake, a shore, on a hill or a mountain with free sight to the east to experience a sunrise. It’s a really unforgettable impression.

Take care!

He’s coming!

600_4067-e_wHe’s coming!
Slowly, but unstoppable.
He takes, but also gives back.
Taking the warmth, but giving color.
Taking sight, but giving silence.
Taking balmy nights, but giving shivering.
The fall!

When the fogs are coming, he has already come.
Sunny days, but not really warm anymore.
Instead, cold, clear and starry nights.
So, in the early morning you need additional, warm clothing.
But during the day, you feel reflections of the past summer.

Not long and the winter is around the corner!
Changing everything again.

So long, take a seat and enjoy the silence of a foggy morning at the lake. But, don’t forget to use a warm seat cushion and a blanket. 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

Todays photograph is my contribution to the weekly photo challenge at “The daily post“. As mentioned in this posts subject, it asks for masterpieces.

There are so many different kinds of genres to pick from, like painting, sculpting and other kinds of artistry. Or think of the awesome buildings made by brilliant architects and so on.

I took a spiderweb. Think of the durable fabrics, the technique to create them in their body and their sustainability.

The ride of Aurora

600_0674-e_wIn the ancient roman mythology, the sun-god Sol (Helios in greek) has a messenger driven ahead of him: Aurora (Eos in greek). She has her own carriage and prepares the path for her following brother.

We left all those old roman and greek gods and goddesses far behind, but each sunrise is still announced by wonderful dawns.

Have you ever observed a sunrise in peace without any hurry? If not, try it. Get up early at night, take some warm clothes and a torch and go in the fields. Look for a place, Continue reading “The ride of Aurora”
