Travel Tuesday: having a chat

Here you can see, why it is important to wear dark clothing instead of these intense colorful functional clothing. You can find three people disturbing a perfect image of an old stone bridge on the Isle of Skye. The two guys chatting at the right side of the bridge are giving perspective and help you feel the size of the bridge. But, did you also recognize the tiny lady on the right side near the edge of the image? When she would have chosen a colorful jacket instead of the dark-gray / black one, she would have popped out much more and the degree of disturbance would be bigger.

Take care!

Monochrome Monday 7-01

600_5663-ec_w

It’s amazing. Today, I start in my seventh year of constantly posting monochrome images. Seven years ago a photographer located in Melbourne, Australia, started the Monochrome Madness Challenge. In the meantime, the challenge in its original way is retired. Here in my blog, you can find my contributions to MMC by simply following the tag “mmc“. Despite MMC is retired, I follow my tradition and post a monochrome image each week here in my blog with the same tag.

I love monochrome images for decades. They are so interesting because of the play of lights and shadows. In my digital workflow, I’m using a software imitating the chemical workflow instead of only desaturating the images. Thus, I get images of the same quality as I got from my old film lab. Unfortunately, the software I’m still using is retired for some reason I don’t understand. It’s successor isn’t that good. So, I don’t mention it here.

In the later part of my adolescence, I have had my own photo lab and was able to develop monochrome film and also do my own prints in the darkroom in the cellar of my parents’ house. Beside my SLR I used an old Voigtländer plate camera, built around 1927. Despite the age, the camera is still working. Once, that camera belonged to my grant-father whom I never met. But, I got it from my grant-mother, when I was in my early twenties and quite experienced in photography.

I also used the camera as a requisite in some steampunk-themed shootings as you can see in the attached image.

Take care!

Monochrome Madness 2-51

mm51-610_0096-ep2_wIt’s time for Monochrome Madness organized by Leanne Cole.

This image would also fit in last weeks photo competitions organized by “The Daily Post“. The theme was ‘half-light’ and we were asked to show an image, that is inspired by some kind of poem, very or song lyric. Here we have the line “When a man loves a woman” by Percy Sledge or “Kiss From A Rose” by Seal.

Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray,
I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray,

This idea behind this image was to create a monochrome image with a silhouette. So, even the color image only has very few colors. I love the result.

Take care!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Grand

dsc_1344-ec_wAt “The Daily Post” they asked for this weeks “Photo Challenge” for photos with the wow factor. Actually, there are many photos on my computer and online as well. I guess, to pick a photo for this competition, it’d would be the easiest way, to look on my walls. Some of my best photos are hanging framed on my walls. But, there are some still only on my computer or here in my blog.

So, I picked a photo taken at my trip to a dreamy island. An island in the sun!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

dsc_9437-ec_w

This weeks assignment for the photo challenge at The daily post is to show the source of light in a photo.

I took this one two or three years ago. The young lady is illuminated by a burning candle. The kind of light, we love especially during the dark months.

In my opinion, it shows, what light can do: enlighten the darkness and warm our lives.

Now, at the end of a year, you can look back and review the enlightening moments of the last year, or your live. These memories keep your heart young. They remain, when you get old.

Take a light with you in your heart.

uhhhhhhh …..

byIt’s November. Today we have Eternity Sunday here in Germany, I already explained it here in more detail. Although this two things already can make you feel sad, the current (typical) November weather makes you feel blue and depressed, too. Additionally the weather can even decrease your mood.

Because of the grey, dark, wet and cold weather we currently have, I miss the colors. You, too? So, enjoy the colors in the above photo.

A big “thank you” to my wonderful model this summer. I took the photo during our Hippie theme photo shooting and edited it afterwards. At first I converted it to grey tones and at last I changed the colors back to blue and yellow. I hope, you like it.

Two other photos taken during that afternoon can be found here and here.

Take care!

kids in …

600_6602-ec_w… Cuba. In case you grew up in the 1980s you might have continued the words with ‘America’, as the title of a Kim Wild song sais. But even Cuba is part of the american continent, the subject is much more precise with the word Cuba in it.

When talking about people, there are also kids to talk about. Usually you can see poverty at first when looking at the kids. In Cuba I didn’t see any poverty. Although some houses looked like a renovation was necessary, the people looked quite good. Many, but not too much, kids were in the streets. Their clothes were in proper shape and they didn’t look Continue reading “kids in …”
