Throwback Thursday: elephant crossing

When arriving in Etosha National Park in north-eastern Namibia 3 weeks ago, we had to wait a while until the huge elephant herd crossing the road. Approxymately 60-80 elephants, mothers, calfs, and adolecents were coming right from a waterhole a few hundred meters away heading back to the bush. One boy, walking at the end of the herd, paused in the middle of the road and tried to impress us with his posing. But all the others were simply walking their way. Very impressive!

And, you can’t imagine how silent they were while coming closer, crossing the road, and vanishing in the bush. The whole event from seeing the elephants coming around a corner in some distance to their vanishing in the bush on the other side of the road lasted approximately 20 minutes.

Monochrome Monday 9-08

Shortly after sunrise at the Fish river canyon in Namibia. While waiting for the sun to crawl higher so that the light was able to reach the remaining parts (poodles) of the water. At that time, the term canyon was right. But, where was the river? The river took a rest. Will be back in the next rain period.

Nevertheless, while waiting, that other car came along raising a huge body of dust from the dry road. Back in the summer of 2020, I was able to see similar situations in Iceland. When seeing such only every now and then, it’s quite impressive. But, I’m glad to not have such each day. On the other hand, when mankind is unwilling to change its style of living, we will definitely see such everywhere on our globe on a regular base.

Here, the low-standing sun makes an interesting scene. But, when the sun dries out the country, nothing remains than stones and dust.

Travel Tuesday: sheep

As I already told you a couple of times, sheep are running free on the Isle of Skye. They can roam wherever they want and you have to drive carefully because you can also find them standing in the middle of the roads. In this case, it was right next to the hiking path. Also, it was eating it paid a lot of attention to the people on the hiking path and keeping at least 5 meters distance. When a person appears to come closer, the sheep escaped at the same speed to keep the distance.

Take care!
